
I was among the first squatters
in 1971 to
occupy this abandoned Army base in the
Copenhagen suburbs, known then and now as Christiania. I shared a
high-ceilinged
flat in what had been the base HQ, now named the Red Lion House, with a gaggle
of Icelanders who enjoyed drumming into the wee hours. The sleep-deprived me
soon
